Bhatt Baldev Ji – A Voice of Devotion in the Guru's Court

Bhatt Baldev Ji was one of the respected Bhatts (court poets) whose verses are preserved in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Background:

Bhatt Baldev Ji was part of a group of learned Brahmin poets who visited the courts of Sikh Gurus, particularly during the time of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Drawn by the spiritual light of the Gurus, these Bhatts composed hymns in their praise, recognizing the Guru as the embodiment of the divine.Baldev Ji was deeply impressed by the teachings and the compassionate life of the Gurus, which led him to offer heartfelt poetic tributes.

Contribution to Guru Granth Sahib Ji:

Two Swaiyas (praise verses) by Bhatt Baldev Ji are included in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, found in the section known as Bhatt Bani. These hymns are composed in the form of Swayyas—short, rhymed verses rich in imagery, spiritual devotion, and reverence.

His writings emphasize that the true path to salvation is through the Guru’s grace and guidance—not through rituals or intellectual pride.

Spiritual Legacy:

Though his contribution may appear brief, Bhatt Baldev Ji's Swaiyas reflect a deep spiritual insight and sincere devotion. They are a part of the enduring voice that confirms the status of the Guru as a divine light on Earth.   ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਪੀਰ – ਬਾਬਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਚੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ, ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚ ਦੀ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ "ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਪੀਰ" ਵੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾਈ, ਭਰਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਬੁਰਾਈਆਂ, ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰੀਤ-ਰਿਵਾਜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਧ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਕੀਤੀ। ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਬਚਪਨ: ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 15 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1469 ਨੂੰ ਰਾਇ ਭੋਈ ਕੀ ਤਲਵੰਡੀ (ਹੁਣ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ) ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਮਹਿਤਾ ਕਾਲੂ ਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾ ਸੀ। ਬਚਪਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਲੌਕਿਕ ਬੁੱਧੀਮਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਵੱਲ ਝੁਕਾਅ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ। ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ: ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ: > "ਸਚੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਬਨਾ ਕੋ ਭਲਾ।" ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਚ, ਨਾਮ, ਦਇਆ, ਤੇ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸੱਚੀ ਨਿਯਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ: ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੱਕਾ, ਮਦੀਨਾ, ਤੁਰਕੀ, ਚੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੱਬਤ ਤੱਕ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਹਰ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ "ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹਿੰਦੂ, ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ – ਸਾਰੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਹਨ।" ਆਖਰੀ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼: ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਖਰੀ ਸਾਸ ਤੱਕ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਪਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਿਆ। ਉਨ...
