THE HISTORY OF BHATT HARBANS
Bhatt Harbans – A Poet of Enlightened Devotion
Bhatt Harbans was one of the eleven Bhatt poets whose sacred compositions are included in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the central religious scripture of Sikhism. These Bhatts were Brahmin scholars who came into the spiritual fold of the Sikh Gurus and offered devotional poetry in their praise.
[ Life and Background ]
Bhatt Harbans lived during the time of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru.
Like other Bhatts, he was highly educated in classical Indian literature and philosophy. His heart was moved by the spiritual presence and teachings of the Sikh Gurus, leading him to become a devoted follower.
[ Contribution to Guru Granth Sahib ]
Two Swayyas (poetic verses) by Bhatt Harbans are included in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji under Raag Ramkali, in the Bhatt Bani section. His hymns are written in praise of Guru Ram Das Ji and Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

The Guru is portrayed as the divine guide and liberator of souls.
