Bhatt Gyand – A Poet of Divine Knowledge and Devotion


Bhatt Gyand was one of the eleven Bhatt poets whose verses are preserved in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the sacred scripture of Sikhism. His name, derived from the Sanskrit word "Gyaan" (meaning knowledge), reflects his scholarly background and deep spiritual understanding.

Bhatt Gyand was a Brahmin scholar, well-versed in Vedic and classical literature.

He lived during the time of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Guru of the Sikhs.Like the other Bhatts, he experienced a profound spiritual awakening in the presence of the Guru, leading him to compose devotional poetry in praise of the Gurus.


Contribution to Guru Granth Sahib


One Swayya (devotional verse) composed by Bhatt Gyand is included in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, in Raag Ramkali, under the Bhatt Bani section. His verse expresses complete reverence for the Guru, who is described as the source of divine knowledge and the destroyer of ego.
